Use of solar energy

This is with reference to the report SR4.5bn Saudi solar revolution Dec. 31 . It is an important decision. Due to its climatic conditions, the Kingdom can utilize solar power to the fullest. There is a great need to promote use of solar energy in Saudi Arabia. It will also help the Kingdom reduce its dependence on fossil fuel and will also help protect the environment. It is unfortunate that despite having all resources, countries like the United States and China are not seriously considering ad...

Spray On Solar Cells

If you could spray on a solar cell instead of manufacturing or printing them, how would that change how we create products that could be an energy source? Scientists at the University of Torontos Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, say theyve created a new method to spray solar cells on flexible surfaces like film or plastic.  This would make solar cells easier and less expensive to to manufacture, but also opens up new applications of solar powe...

Why 2015 Will Be the Year of Solar Energy

Lester Lefkowitz Whether you realize it or not, solar energy is becoming a more and more important part of our energy future. In 2013, 29 percent of new electricity-generating capacity in the U.S. was solar energy, and so far in 2014, 36 percent of new capacity is solar. Falling costs and improving technology will drive wider adoption, and 2015 could be a tipping point, bringing the solar industry to new parts of the country. The Year Solar Caught On in the U.S. 2014 has been the start of consu...

Solar ETFs Primed For Brighter Future

While many industries struggle to generate robust growth in a still-slow global economy, the solar power industry has become a juggernaut. Utilities, businesses and consumers deployed a combined 48.5 gigawatts of solar panel in 2014, up 20 percent from a year ago. The quickening adoption for solar can be explained by one simple statistic: The total system cost of a solar installation is dropping at a 10 percent annual pace, according to JP Morgan analyst Paul Coster. In a recent report to clie...

First Georgina solar farm could be sign of things to come

It remains to be seen whether or not Georgina’s first solar farm will be the dawn of a renewable day. But the 10MW solar project on Old Homestead Road, east of Park Road, does mark a major shift in the rural landscape. Panels started going up on the GoldLight Solar LP solar photovoltaic PV facility in August that will eventually provide energy to the Ontario Power Authority OPA under a 20-year Feed-in Tariff FIT contract. By the time the facility is expected to be fully operational ...
